Amy Bowman

Belly Dance Instructor
Irish Step Dancing Instructor

Amy has been dancing since she could walk. After spending her early years taking a variety of classes including ballet, tap, and figure skating, she fell in love with traditional Irish step dance at age 12. Over the last 18 years she has received training from 8 Irish dance schools including Tiernan Irish Dance, a subset of the famous Trinity Irish Dancers in Chicago, and Comerford Irish Dance, one of the most renowned schools on the West Coast. Before moving to Mississippi, she co-founded and ran a company called 5.6.7.8 Irish Dance, a performance school specializing in unique performance pieces and fusion pieces that merged Irish dance with other styles. She is currently competing in Irish Dance under Niall O’Leary (TCRG & ADCRG) and is studying to take her TCRG exams to become a certified Irish Dance instructor according to the World Irish Dance Association.

In addition to Irish Dance, Amy enjoys taking lessons in other dance styles. As an adult she has discovered a passion for both Latin social dance and Belly dancing. She performed salsa and bachata for 2 years all over the country including NYC and Las Vegas. For the last 10 years she has been an avid belly dancer, training in styles such as Oriental, Egyptian, and Turkish. She performed with several dance troops including Wisteria in SLC, an invite-only group and the longest-running in the state of Utah. She also choreographed and taught a beginning belly dance routine at UVU for two semesters. She is currently working on getting her SEEDs (Self-esteem, Empowerment, and Education through Dance) certification, which is a youth mentorship program for social change that teaches belly dance moves and culture.

Amy’s favorite thing to do is teach dance and see her students grow and be confident on stage performing or competing. In her free time, she loves taking her two mini australian shepherds out on adventures. She graduated Cum Laude from Utah Valley University with a B.S. in Entrepreneurship, an A.S. in Business Management, and a minor in Marketing.
