Mrs. Lori Kerns
Lori Kerns has over 30 years of dance experience and training. She grew up dancing in the New Orleans area until she moved to Mississippi, where she eventually began her formal training at the University of Southern Mississippi. Prior to USM, Lori was captain of MGCCC Perkette Dance Team her freshman and sophomore years. At Southern Miss she continued studying with the dance department, performing in fall, spring, and Jr/Sr dance concerts, and also served as Lieutenant for the Dixie Darlings Dance Team. Upon graduation, Lori opened a dance studio with two locations, Gulfport and Wiggins, which had a team that competed in regional competitions and performed in various venues, including three performances at Disney World. She is proud that some of her students have become Dixie Darlings and others have opened their own studio. In addition to her studio, she also served as choreographer for local high school dance teams, community theater productions, and Mardi Gras balls. When Lori’s children were very young, she made the difficult decision to take a break from teaching dance so that she could begin a career as a federal librarian, which allowed her to spend more time with them. Lori holds a Bachelor’s in Psychology with a Minor in Dance, in addition to a Master’s of Library and Information Science. Now that her children are grown, she is so excited to come back to focus on her love of dance that she has missed so much!
